Conversion to WordPress 2.8

Actually a little off-topic, but also important. I have now - changed the wordpress installation to the new 2.8 version - after some minor hiccups. And I had more problems than expected. My webhost is 1 & 1, on the web space to run a few things, including two systems WordPress.

What has struck me - for some time was the update mechanism does not remember which was introduced in WordPress 2.7 for the plugins. When you click update it will download the zip and then nothing happens and WordPress stops. Therefore, I have also performed the update manually via FTP for safety's sake. Everything as usual, first secured database (we just add the plugin WP-DBManager), then the entire file system backed up. Then down to wp-content and delete the configuration file all the old files and playing up the new release.

Unfortunately, the FTP upload with Filezilla was not particularly successful, the Web server was after a few files then for about 10 minutes each is not accessible. I suspect that 10 simultaneous connections were too much for him. So all files uploaded sequentially.

And then once frustration - Error 500 - Internal server error, could not call back or front. The upgrade.php went still, so I could update the database. But the problem remained. Now there are two probable sources of error that I could not find out after some research. First, the PHP version that runs on your 1 & 1 web hosting packages (Home 5.0) PHP 4.x and 5.x parallel - PHP 5 is only used if the PHP files with PHP5.. However, one can not simply rename all WordPress files, I have the solution for task diaz found:

It only takes 2 lines added to your. Htaccess to force 1 & 1 to use a version of PHP 5 Add the following to the first two lines in your. Htaccess file.
 php5 . php AddHandler x - mapp - php5 . php AddType x - mapp - php5 php AddHandler x -. Mapp - php5 php. 
Once you make the edits to your. Htaccess and upload it to your directory once again open phpinfo.php in your web browser. You should now be able to see that your database is using PHP 5

The second problem is but still, that obviously the memory limit of PHP with 1 & 1 is not sufficient for WordPress. In addition I have at root777.com a quick but effective solution:

After I recently upgraded my blog to the latest version of Wordpress v2.7, I noticed an Error 500 - Internal server error.

The solution to the Error 500 - Internal server error
  First  Create a file called "php.ini" in
 the / wp-admin / directory of your blog 
  Second  In the file add the text
 "Memory = 20MB" without the quotes 
This should fix the problem

So if you have these or similar problems with your webhost so, then perhaps you will help the next. Now everything is running again and fortunately the plugin update works again. Btw ... It's also nice that the individual versions of WordPress have for some time, your code names of famous jazz musicians, version 2.8 has (I think) the code name of Baker, the previous version was Coltrane.
